Innovation & Technologie Anfrage

British start-up is seeking technology and research partners who can help analyse animal movement and behaviour.

Country of Origin: United Kingdom
Reference Number: TRUK20181107001
Publication Date: 8 November 2018

Summary

UK company developing an electronic tag for farmers to track and monitor their livestock to minimise losses is looking for a partner with IT skills working with sensors to co-develop the product, advance the mathematical models, data analysis and conduct research in the development of the integrated model and bring together multiple disciplines. The company is seeking either a research or technical co-operation agreement with organisations that have appropriate experience and skills.

Description

The UK company is developing an electronic tag using the latest technology to allow farmers to track and monitor their livestock across wide-ranging farming conditions and reduce preventable losses. The system is unique and offers an innovative technology to track the location of animals and monitor their wellbeing in near real-time and receive notifications when animals move beyond set boundaries or exhibit irregular movement or behaviour. The technology can be rolled out internationally. The product is near complete and they are looking for a research partner to advance the mathematical models and data analysis to understand animal movement, behaviour, welfare and ultimately health. This is the most important next step, and would ideally involve applied research/academia with experience in the IT sector working with sensors to co-develop the product. The target species will be cattle (beef and dairy), sheep, goats and wildlife with a potential to also include research in the application of the technologies and AI/ML in Africa or other countries.

The UK company is also developing livestock production models. With the application, they intend to develop an integrated system to improve the output and yield for the farmer. This means that they will build underlying capabilities in nutrition, grazing, breeding, genetics, management and farming economics that can be relevant to different livestock production systems (such as extensive farming in low yield areas or intensive farming in high yields areas).

Expertise sought

Knowledge of mathematical models and data analysis to understand animal movement, behaviour, welfare and ultimately health and conduct research in the development of the integrated model and bring together multiple disciplines.

Requested partner

The UK company is seeking a university or R&D Institution for technical or research cooperation to advance the mathematical models and data analysis to understand animal movement, behaviour, welfare and ultimately health.
The role of the partner will be to develop models to understand animal movement, behaviour, welfare and ultimately health to reduce losses.
The partner would conduct research and be involved in the development of the integrated model and bring together multiple disciplines.
