Poor readability and short range limitations are preventing the widescale deployment of fixed passive Radio-frequency identification (RFID) reader systems because they cannot deliver the high levels of accuracy expected in an IoT driven world. Conventional fixed passive RFID readers struggle to read >80-90% of the tags in the vast majority of applications and use cases because of RFID dead spots (blind spots).

In some cases, handheld readers are being used but the associated time and cost is prohibitive. With active RFID solutions, the cost is prohibitive for most industry sectors.

A UK company has successfully built up technology for novel fixed readers with advanced signal processing, to lift the accuracy of passive RFID tag reading to 99.9%. A single fixed reader can cover up to 400 m2 and they are scalable to larger areas whilst remaining easy to install.
