Description

The threaded joint is designed to be used in place with traditional elements in a threaded joint connection (e.g. nuts, bolts, pins, drift punches, screws, self-tapping screws).

The proposed threaded joint is securely retains the desired magnitude contraction of the parts, even for critical cases, such as vibration.

New useful properties emerge from an independent application (dynamic and static) of the product as well as in combination.

The design can be applied to active element of threaded joint as the hex nut. The element must have at least one extra hole (recess) which diameter does not extend beyond the element’s thread dimension. When tightening the nut, besides perform the basic function - joining of parts, it also restores contaminated or deformed areas of the bolt thread or other passive element of the joint connection.

A self-tapping screw (or a pin, or a screw) is inserted into the opening so that it deforms a portion of the bolt thread. This damaged thread locks the nut against the bolt and prevents it from involuntary motions. The thread is restored when untightening the nut after removing the locking element. The inventors have a know-how that enables producing products by converting of traditional joint elements, even in a home workshop. When further elaborating on the advanced features of the offered connection there can be two options of its design:

1. Disposable

2. Reusable.

The first option provides a reliable connection of active and passive elements of materials with the similar plasticity. When material of the active component is firmer than the material of passive one, a reuse of the elements becomes possible.

For users of the altered threaded joint for unique or highly specialized products that require high reliability of threaded joint it is allowed to use other methods of plastic deformation in contiguous areas of the thread of active and passive elements. 

The University has the necessary experience, scientific and technical staff and equipment to implement the design and research work necessary to create and test new types of the reliable threaded joints. 

The University is interested in manufacturing or license agreements with industrial companies, and in technical cooperation with research organizations (universities, research institutes and laboratories) for the creation of threaded joint elements.

Advantages and Innovations

Reliability. This is achieved by the fact that the damaged joint area of thread between passive and active elements increases the reliability of connection needed to keep parts pressed together. There is a possibility, if necessary, to restore the damaged areas, which allows multiple reuse of the product. The level of reliability is achieved by the level of reliability of the joint that is used.

Interchangeability.  New products can be used in place of traditional elements in threaded joints. This improves the maintainability of any products with their application.

Economic benefits.  Regardless of the manufacturing size, the product production is characterized by:

- Cheapness. The cost is comparable to traditional elements.

- Simplicity in production. Implementation know-how allows to achieve this as by the modernization of existing products so as by creating of new ones.

- Market demand for mass production. It is confirmed by referring to the existing market of threaded joint elements.

Intellectual novelty. The threaded joint is protected by state of intellectual property - patents for invention in many countries.
