Summary

A Serbian medical herbs research has developed a novel semi-solid and liquid phytopreparations which are characterized by the strong antibacterial effects even against bacterial strains resistant to antibiotics with simultaneous anti-inflammatory effect on the skin. The company is looking for a commercial agreement with preferably a pharmaceutical company with technical assistance or license agreement.

Description

The end of the 20th century witnessed a dramatic appearance and spread of pan-resistant pathogenic bacterial strains resistant to absolutely every existing antibiotic. In the last ten years, more and more ongoing studies of the antibacterial action of non-antibiotic substances, including plant extracts, have been made in order to find new agents in the fight against infections caused by multiresistant strains of bacteria. According to their invention, a combination of extract of three plants isolates has contributed to the unexpected increase in the anti-inflammatory effect of individual components. The combination of extracts and essential oil, according to their invention, leads to an unexpected anti-irritant effect, which is important in application to damaged skin and mucous membrane. In this way, the effects of an antibacterial action are consolidated and enhanced by a novel pharmaceutical composition, providing significant anti-inflammatory and protective activity.
The selection of active ingredients of natural origin, according to their invention, was carried out on the basis of scientifically confirmed physiological effects of medicinal herbs and lichens (antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, protective). The novel semi-solid and liquid phytopreparations are characterized by strong antibacterial effects even against bacterial strains resistant to antibiotics with simultaneous anti-inflammatory effect on the skin. The phytopreparations can be used in human and veterinary medicine. In vivo anti-inflammatory effect of the preparation was tested in humans while in vivo antibacterial effect was tested in dogs. The company is looking for a partner to make a commercial agreement with technical assistance or license agreement.

Advantages and Innovations

The invention refers to semi-solid and liquid phytopreparations with strong antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity based on a new combination of three natural extracts. The phytopreparations are aimed for the preventive and therapeutic purposes in human and veterinary medicine, capable to reduce or eliminate the symptoms of microbial infections and stimulate regeneration of impaired soft tissues and skin caused by bacteria and fungi infections. The compositions additionally lessen the undesirable changes due to the effects of free radicals, which lead to inflammation of the skin and accelerate the aging process. This preparation is proved to be very effective against causative agents of purulent infections (pyoderma, decubitus, wounds, etc) including MRS strains. During clinical in vivo investigations, no irritation or any other undesired effects of the preparation has been discovered. The preparations are very suitable not just for the local treatment of infections caused by multiresistant strains, but also where antibiotics should be avoided (long duration therapies of chronic purulent skin infections in animals and humans, decubitus, etc). Based on the same composition, a gel and spray for the throat will be produced as well as a cream formulation for topical use.
