Installation for producing functionalised nanocomposite permselective materials

Country of Origin: Romania
Reference Number: TORO20201124002
Publication Date: 24 November 2020

Summary

A Romanian research institute has developed a pilot installation for producing functionalised
nanocomposite permselective materials. The institute is looking for a company interested in the
industrial scale construction of the installation and the construction of membrane-based equipment for
the purpose of commercialization, under a technical cooperation or commercial agreement with
technical assistance.

Description

The installation allows a wide range of such materials, with reproducible structural, electroconductive and
hydrodynamic characteristics. In most modern technologies that have in their phases the separation of various
compounds from liquid media, classical filtration has been replaced by processes that have as a central element of
separation a nanomaterial permselective material known as the membrane. Transport phenomena, flowing into
porous media, separation under environmental and environmental conditions, and a wealth of practical applications
have made the membrane field grow at an exponential rate. It is the natural consequence of the optimal ratio between
the technical and economic factors that characterize the membrane processes:
• technical factors: selectivity of separation, reliability of technologies and related facilities, product quality,productivity and energy consumption;
• economic factors: the cost of installations and equipment, the cost of operation and maintenance, the price of the
final product.
The main advantage of membrane processes is the ability to separate thermolabile compounds, since separations
are carried out at ambient temperature. Thus, the problems of separation and concentration of compounds whose
properties related to the structure and implicitly to the mode of action are irreversibly altered at a certain temperature
are solved. In the last time, the use of membrane processes has been imposed (at the expense of classical
separation / concentration processes) in the following areas: -biotechnologies - for the separation and concentration
of biologically active compounds from existing complex mixtures in plant extracts, processing of biosynthetic
environments, concentration of fruit juices, removal of microbiological load from wine (cold sterilization, without
sulphites addition, etc);- treatment of surface or deep water for the purpose of potable water;
-take of drinking water in sea water through reverse osmosis;
The installation for continuous flow of nanocomposite materials comprises the following subassemblies (figure 1):
- the film generation module (1) - the coagulation tank (2)
- the reaction tank (3) - the thermostate module (4)
- the coagulation solution feed module (5) - the reaction mixture feeding module (6) - the wastewater
collecting an neutralization tank (7). The nanocomposite membranes were achieved by successively following the
following stages of the technological flow: in the first step, the polymer is dissolved in the solvent, after this the
adjuvants needed to adjust the viscosity are added to the solution; the final solution obtained is filtered and deaerated; this is introduced into the film generation module, after which the process of forming the membrane begins
by applying the polymeric solution to the polyester support, immersing the polymer film in the coagulation bath,
passing the membrane formed in the reaction vessel in which the composite membrane is made, the washing and
finally the conditioning of the obtained membrane.
- industrial wastewater treatment;
-cleaning of levigates generated by municipal landfills.
The technical problem solved by the invention consists in development of an installation for producing functionalized
nanocomposite permselective materials with overlapped polymeric structures. The materials are resulting from the
chemical reaction forming of one polymer into the training process network through a physical process of another
chemically inert polymer by phase inversion. Electroconductive and hydrodynamic characteristics are reproducible
and usable both for baromembrane processes as well as in electrochemical processes for bioseparation and
bioassay. A Romanian research institute is looking for a company interested in the industrial scale construction of the
installation for the purpose of commercialization for technical and research cooperation agreement with technical
assistance.

Advantages and Innovations

The installation and technology used has the following advantages:
- is producing the functionalized nanocomposite permselective materials with reproducible electrically
hydrodynamic and structural characteristics
- modular construction, simple, easy to operate and serviced
- is allowing production of functionalized nanocomposite permselective materials, with various
characteristics, in the same cycle of operation.
The installation is designed for producing functionalized nanocomposite permselective materials, usable both for
baromembrane processes as well as in electrochemical processes for bioseparation and bioassay; it is solving the
problems related to the fact that the multilayer permselective materials obtained using other technologies consist of
two or more layers physically deposited on each other, with applicability in most cases restricted to the field of
barometric processes.
