Polish university presents new class of high quality luminescent semiconductor quantum dots having positive surface charge and seeks license agreement

Country of Origin: Poland
Reference Number: TOPL20190211001
Publication Date: 28 February 2020

Summary

A technological university from Poland patented a luminescent nanostructure (<100nm) with superior stability and remarkable optical properties for bio-imaging or optoelectronics applications. These non toxic nanoparticles are produced by an ecological process without using high boiling solvents and toxic precursor, in ambient conditions. Partners are sought to cooperate under license agreement to further develop this technology to the industrial scale and introduce it internationally.

Description

The researcher group from Technological University from Poland which deals with production of high luminescent, semiconductor quantum dots having positive surface applicable in several types of industry such as biology, medicine, printing and optoelectronics is looking for cooperation. Developed nanoparticles meet the requirements of biomedical and medical industry. The nanoparticles are not toxic, have relatively small size and hydrophilic nature due to a suitable stabilizer and water-solubility. After simple surface modification with long aliphatic ligand with big success can find application in optoelectronics as an element of polymer nanocomposites. The modification of nanoparticle surfaces induces a change in their nature from hydrophilic to hydrophobic. The university is looking for partners to cooperate with via license agreement ready to develop and bring the product to the market.

Advantages and Innovations

- much higher intensity of luminescent with sizes of less than 100 nm, even up to 3-4 nm,
- better homogeneity in the size,
- higher concentration of nanoparticles in water suspension,
- shortening of the synthesis process,
- simple process, without using toxic substrate;
The process guarantees superior structural homogeneity, both regarding size and shape, and reproducibility. The luminescent are chemically, physically and optically stable during several weeks.
