Dutch developer of unique air preheater made out of high temperature resistant polymer tubes is looking for users or suppliers of boilers, furnaces or dryers

Country of Origin: Netherlands
Reference Number: TONL20170911002
Publication Date: 14 September 2017

Summary

The Dutch company has developed a robust heat exchanger of polymer tubes to recover waste heat and save on energy costs. The unique air preheater can recover heat from corrosive and fouling gas streams in combustion processes or humid exhaust air from drying processes in multiple industries. To expand sales in Europe and South Asia both end users and suppliers of furnaces and dryers are sought. A commercial agreement with technical assistance or a joint venture agreement are proposed.

Description

A lot of industries discharge a vast amount of energy due to heat emissions into the atmosphere. In particular in Energy Intensive Industry re-use of this waste heat is the next low hanging fruit that enables companies to substantially reduce operating costs by saving on fossil fuel consumption. Moreover it leads to environmental benefits improving its CO2 footprint, which leads to image improvement and allows industry to fulfil its sustainability targets.

The Dutch company has developed a unique air preheater that enables heat recovery from corrosive and / or fouling gas streams originating from for example industrial boilers, dryers, (refinery) furnaces, steam reformers, ovens and incinerators that couldn’t be recovered effective before.

Company
The company was founded in 2008 as a spin-off from a large multinational located in the Netherlands. After some initial years of product development and prototyping the proprietary technology of the robust honeycomb structured polymer tube bundle was ready for market introduction. Excellent performance was proven in harsh conditions of corrosive and fouling flue gas with realized energy savings over 5%. Supported by a group of renowned investors the company is expanding sales towards all European countries and the South-East Asia region. All activities are coordinated from the head office located in the centre of the Netherlands.

Product
The air preheater consists of multiple corrosion resistant tube bundles placed in a metal shell or housing. The proprietary polymer bundle design consists of multiple tubes that are connected to each other over almost the full length of the tube. This structure creates a strong rigid matrix grid that is able to resist high gas velocities and thermo shocks. The supporting connector between the individual tubes creates simultaneously a counter current flow configuration between the two fluids. This configuration improves the heat transfer by 20% compared to cross flow type exchangers.

The company has a broad range of references in various industries worldwide.

Markets
The Dutch company is focussing on two major applications:
1. Heat recovery from flue gasses from combustion processes of firing, e.g. gas, oil, coal, biomass, oil
2. Heat recovery from humid exhaust air from drying processes in multiple industries
The waste heat is always used to preheat the cold air entering the combustion process. The energy efficiency of a typical combustion process can be increased with 3-5% and up to 25% for a drying process.

Collaboration
To expand sales in Europe and South Asia the Dutch company is looking for end users that are interested to boost the energy efficiency of their boiler, furnace and dryer to reduce their carbon dioxide emission. End users can be found in oil refining, (petro) chemical, food, ceramic, biomass firing or fertilizer industry.

Furthermore the company is looking for boiler, furnace and dryer suppliers to collaborate. The air preheater can be a valuable add-on for the complete boiler, furnace or dryer package for new builts.

The proposed type of collaboration is a commercial agreement with technical assistance or a Joint venture agreement.

Advantages and Innovations

Compared to metal heat-exchangers this system can be used in harsh conditions like corrosive and / or fouling gas streams with realized energy savings ranging between 3 - 25%.

Requested partner

The Dutch company has a lot of experience in designing the heat exchangers in close collaboration with process engineers. An optimal process design is developed for a customer specific situation. The Dutch company is interested to get into contact with Engineering Procurement and Construction Partners or Original Equipment Manufacturers of boilers/dryers/furnaces that are interested to integrate the polymer heat exchanger solution into their complete product offering.

Furthermore the Dutch company is interested to get into contact with end users looking for energy saving opportunities by recovering heat from corrosive flue gasses and/or wet exhaust air from industrial drying processes.
