Description

In recent years the popularity of home automation increased greatly due to much higher affordability and simplicity through the smartphone and tablet connectivity. In addition, the concept of ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) has tied in closely with the popularization of the home automation. The majority of the smart home systems available on the market are strictly focused on the device operation and control. The proposed solution places an emphasis on the monitoring of the already existing electrical installations and appliances, without any need of additional wiring and device modification and with almost unlimited electric power (up to 12kW per single-phase installation).  

The Macedonian company specialized in developing smart home systems introduces a cloud-based solution that works using Wi-Fi, LAN and GSM, and allows monitoring and control of variety of electrical devices (heating, cooling, lights, valves, ramps, gates etc.) via different means (iOS/Android phones and tablets, Windows & Mac PCs). The system uses affordable and simple sensors’ network for both remote controlling of the electrical devices and for alerting purposes. Instant alerting notifications are sent via mobile applications or e-mails every time a safety-related sensor is being activated (e.g. smoke, movement, noise, flood, etc.).

The first installation of the proposed solution is easy and fast (up to 2 hours) and adding new devices to already introduced system does not require replacement or specific update of the system due to the advanced server-backend functionalities. The system features several modules depending on the number and types of monitored and controlled devices, and types of sensors and functionalities/notifications used. These modules can be used as standalone solutions or easily integrated in one system depending on the user’s needs. Some of the technical features of the proposed solution include:
- Software component based on IoT cloud platform;
- Completely wireless solution with agile and fast client-server-devices communication;
- No Radio Frequency/Bluetooth/ZigBee technology is being used thus there is no risk of signal interference;
- Operation with both fixed or mobile internet connectivity (GSM), Ethernet and Wi-Fi connection modes;
- Uses both mobile & desktop applications as well as Rich Internet Application (RIA) WebControl.

The main benefits from using the solution are efficiency (reduced electrical bills by at least 30%), safety (protection from electrical shock, fire or flood) and improved lifetime of electrical devices. The system pauses the electrical connection for a few seconds thus evading the current peak and protecting the devices. It also disconnects the devices completely from the electric supply and saving their lifetime by avoiding the standby mode.

The company is looking for partners that would help introducing the proposed solution at new markets by targeting private houses, apartments, offices and weekend houses, and by considering commercial agreement with technical assistance. Potential partners should be companies working in the fields of energy efficiency, smart home and automation of electrical appliances who would implement the proposed solution according to their preferences. The Macedonian company will provide the necessary technical assistance during the overall process.
