Description

A north Italian company, developer and manufacturer of advanced, lightweight technologies, has developed  a suit of algorithms based on a cutting edge physical/electro-chemical model of a Lithium Ion cell .The technology allows to  estimate accurately in real time SOC and SOH from measurements of voltage, current and temperature of the battery cells.
The technology code is optimized to run in real time directly on the BMS or on a separate micro-controller communicating with the BMS via CAN (Controller Area Network). It also estimates cycle and calendar life at different ambient temperatures, depth of discharges, C-rates and initial SOC.
The Italian company is looking for licensing , manufacturing and/or joint venture agreements with power electronics companies and battery modules manufacturers.

Advantages and Innovations

While most of the methods used by existing BMSs require the lithium ion battery to be periodically recharged at 100% in order to keep the accuracy at an acceptable level, the estimator does not run out with time thanks to its detailed physical based model of the lithium ion cell.
The technology can be used also to estimate the cycle and calendar life of the battery at different storage and cycling conditions. It can also be customized and embedded in BMS for any battery applications from automotive to stationary
