Description

An innovative Italian company, founded in 1996 has developed revolutionary furniture, trademark protected and patented worldwide, for homes and hospitals and has recently developed an air mattress with integrated ventilation technology. The "ventilating technology" is a versatile system which can be integrated in existing mattresses or can be offered as an independent solution to be put on the top of existing mattresses. This technology can be integrated in mattresses for beds, upholstery for sofas or, in general, in any other piece of furniture such as chairs, chaise longue, etc.

The "ventilating technology" is covered by an Italian patent and by the related PCT extension worldwide.

The "ventilating technology" has been developed and optimized for a medical use, in particular for the prevention of the onset of pressure ulcers. Actually, this company developed a new anti-decubitus system based on the same proprietary "ventilating technology" for the prevention of decubitus ulcers. With this project, the company received a grant from the European Commission (SME Instrument Phase 2) of 1.3 MEuro for a 24-month project and now the clinical trials are successfully starting in three Hospitals, both in Italy and Portugal. 

Thus, the proposed use of the "ventilating technology" is:

- in the field of home furniture, to enhance the comfort of users;

- in the transportation industry for new seats, to enhance the comfort of drivers or passengers;

- in the healthcare field, to prevent pressure ulcers integrating the solution in medical equipment (e.g. beds).

The SME is looking for IP licensing, joint venture agreements and research cooperation agreements. The company is looking for manufacturers interested in acquiring the license, to integrate the technology into furniture, seats and beds. They are also open to joint ventures and research cooperation agreements to co-develop new products based on the ventilation technology, subject to an IP agreement. The cooperation is expected to be relevant for manufacturers of furniture, selling to e.g. health / beauty spas and hotels, wellness centers/fitness centres, beauty farms, elderly care centres/ therapeutic massage centres.

In the healthcare field, through the SME Instrument H2020 Phase 2 funded by the European Commission, the company is producing a new anti-decubitus bed for the treatment and the early diagnosis of the pressure ulcers with the following main benefits: a floating action as compressed air is forced to pass between the patient and the mattress, oxygenating body decubitus areas to better control the wound microenvironment thanks to a ventilation system of compressed air; a physiological skin evaporation to avoid humidity stagnation and so maceration of skin.
