Summary

A Croatian company, specialised in integrated power quality and measurement solutions, is offering services agreement for their innovative wide area monitoring system.

Description

A Croatian company, with more than 10 years of experience in developing complete technical solutions by combining software, firmware and hardware with an emphasis on integrated power quality and measurement solutions is offering its innovative wide area monitoring system (WAMS).

WAMS is used for continuous analysis of all the features of a large power network. By using phasor measurement units (PMUs), information can be recorded and monitored to detect disturbances and improve knowledge of network behaviour.

The company has developed innovative WAMS based on hand-held and easy to install phasor measurement unit (PMU). The PMU has embedded continuous waveform recorder and harmonic measurement functions which are running in parallel with synchrophasor measurement technique.

This PMU can easily be installed and uninstalled in substations or on generators without isolation of equipment and it uses mobile telephone network for communication with phasor data concentrator (PDC).

PDC is central application of the WAMS, which collects and analyses synchrophasor data. Since WAMS developed by the company runs as web service in cloud, cost of ownership is greatly reduced.

This technology is used for extremely efficient and cost-effective expansion of power system dynamic monitoring to any node of power system. Combination of syncrhophasors, disturbance recording and harmonic measurement reveals true nature of system disturbance and system response even in most remote nodes. System can be used as a stand-alone disturbance detection tool or as wireless expansion of already installed WAMS system to remote nodes where mainstream WAMS cannot be deployed. It does not interfere with utility owned communication system. Installation of the measurement unit is fast and the unit can be easily relocated once the measurement task on the particular node is completed.

So far, the company has successfully used its innovative technology for measurement campaigns in Croatia, India and Kenya and now they are looking for partners in Europe who need their services, preferably transmission system operators, independent power producers, academia, electrical power system consulting companies, distribution system operators etc.

The company is offering their innovative technology and expertise through services agreement.

Advantages and Innovations

Wide area monitoring system (WAMS) developed by the company is based on hand-held and easy to install phasor measurement unit (PMU). PMU has embedded continuous waveform recorder and harmonic measurement functions that are running in parallel with synchrophasor measurement technique.

PMU can easily be installed and uninstalled in substations or on generators without isolation of equipment and it uses mobile telephone network for communication with phasor data concentrator (PDC).

PDC is central application of WAMS, which collects and analyses synchrophasor data. Since PDC runs as web service in cloud, cost of ownership is greatly reduced.

Advantages: easy setup - less than 15 minutes from arrival on site until valid data being reported on web, battery operated - more than 4 hours of autonomy during blackout conditions, wireless data transmission - no need for additional infrastructure, web interface - data is accessible from everywhere.
