Smart thermostat for wet heating systems with load/weather compensation and wifi connectivity.

Country of Origin: Greece

Summary

A Greek SME has developed an innovative thermostat with wireless thermometers which adjusts the power of the radiators, according to the real heating needed. The Greek company is looking for partners from the architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) sectors under a commercial agreement with technical assistance and/or investors under a financial agreement.

Description

A Greek company, SME Instrument Phase I beneficiary, has developed a smart thermostat optimized for wet heating systems with hot water radiators. Today the majority of thermostats used for heating operate in programmed time intervals and are optimized for heating systems with hot air. This results in energy waste.

The suggested smart thermostat applies for wet (hydronic-hot water with radiators) heating systems. The thermostat uses the techniques of load/weather compensation and regulates the temperature of the radiators to the real heating need of the building (house, apartment, office, hotel room etc).

The thermostat uses wireless sensors and artificial intelligence (AI) technology to process the collected information. The thermostat calculates precisely the heating power needed and determines the needed heating temperature of the radiators. The temperature of the radiators fluctuates according to the heating need, and it is not stable like it happens in the heating systems with conventional thermostats.

Contrary to the common solutions, the smart thermostat has the potential not only to turn-on and turn-off the heating, but also to vary automatically the power of heating (radiators temperature). Only when the energy of the radiators has been absorbed from the surrounding space, the thermostat turns on the heating in order to add again more heat, avoiding overheating and waste of energy and money. As a result, the energy needed in order to keep the house-apartment-office-room warm, matches exactly the energy offered from the heating system, with high precision, resulting to considerable energy savings. The thermostat is Industry 4.0 enabled and uses Internet of Things (IoT) and mobile application together with data analysis capability.

The Greek SME is looking for partners that deal with the building sector under a commercial agreement with technical assistance and/or investors in order to offer the technology under a financial agreement.

Advantages and Innovations

The suggested smart thermostat is using wireless sensors and operates based on the real heating needs of the room. The thermostat can substitute any other conventional thermostat without the need of any extra wiring. The thermostat uses AI and load\weather compensation techniques, in order to calculate exactly the amount of energy needed at every moment and regulate the temperature of the radiators accordingly. Overheating is avoided and there is a significant gain in energy consumption and cost, with no comfort sacrifice (same indoor temperature with considerable less consumption).
