French Technology Transfer Office proposes a process to create a single photon source used in telecommunications sector or in scientific instrumentation

Country of Origin: France
Reference Number: TOFR20180124001
Publication Date: 24 January 2018

Summary

The French TTO (Technology Transfer Office) is acting on behalf of an established public laboratory of the Paris region that has developed a novel process to emit a single photon. This kind of method is used for cryptography in telecommunications and is used for technical instruments in microscopy or spectroscopy. The efficiency of the process has been demonstrated. The French public research centre is looking for partners for a technical cooperation, license or a research cooperation agreement.

Description

The French TTO (Technology Transfer Office) is acting on behalf of an established public laboratory of the leading French scientific based in the Paris region.

The common cryptography used in telecommunications is based on the encryption of a clear message with a key by the transformation in an incomprehensible message (or coded text) for the one who has not the key of decoding.
The different methods to produce cryptography are not 100% reliable yet. Everyday hackers intercept messages, confidential data,…
The quantum cryptography is new way to secure information exchange based on the quantum mechanics’ theory.
The new French approach consists in the distribution of the new kind of keys, the quantum keys.
To assure the best security of these, it is important to work on light on more precisely on photons.
The existing lasers with “few photons” are not reliable because hackable, the stake is to develop a single photon source.

Using single photon emission could be interesting also for the scientific instruments whose performances are based on the use of light sources. The possibility to count photons could be used in bio photonics, microscopy, fluorescence, astronomy and spectroscopy.

The French TTO is able to provide technical and legal assistance to facilitate the eventual partnership. In case of business potential, the prototype can be partially funded by the TTO.

The partner sought could be a university or a company interested in :
- a license agreement as the TTO is ready to negociate directly the patents rights for specific applications, or
- a research cooperation agreement considering the still relatively low Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of the actual device for some applications, or
- a technical cooperation agreement if the industrial application can benefit directly from the actual device.

Advantages and Innovations

Currently no solution available on the market permits to produce an unique photon source with the purest and the most effective effect.

The advantages of this technology:
- non destructive process
- low cost
- ambient temperature
- high accuracy

Stage Of Development

Available for demonstration

Requested partner

The partner sought could be a university or a company interested in a license agreement or a research cooperation agreement or a technical cooperation agreement. The partner should have a clear industrial application in mind, and should have a strong technical background to co-develop the product with the laboratory.

Cooperation offer ist closed for requests
