Partners sought to collaborate in project proposals focused on advanced material developments for defence sector

Country of Origin: Spain
Reference Number: TOES20200130003
Publication Date: 30 January 2020

Summary

A Spanish technological centre expert in plastics is very keen on the development and investment in a new branch for the defence sector. They would like to get in touch with enterprises (both large companies and SMEs), as well as with other research organizations or any kind of agency, in order to study different needs and business opportunities towards new defence-scope projects considering the H2020 calls to prepare new defence sector proposals.

Description

The Spanish research centre is a non-profit association of companies working in technological research and development on thermoplastic and thermosetting plastic materials & products, its transformation processes and their recyclability and sustainability.

They have a broad expertise in the fields of synthesis of polymers, compatibilization, reactive extrusion, additive manufacturing and renewable source materials, special assisted processing technologies and nanocomposites, gained during the last years in the frame of EU and national projects.

Furthermore they have more than 20 pilot plants representing the most relevant polymer/plastics/composites production technologies present in the industry nowadays and have state-of-the art test facilities for chemical, optical, morphological, mechanical and physical characterisation.

Among their research lines they highlight the following ones to be potentially applied in the defence sector projects:
- Dispersion of nanomaterials in polymer (thermoset and thermoplastic matrixes)
- Composite and reinforced materials
- Smart materials: phase change, shape memory, piezoelectric, electro and magneto-active, photo and chrome-active and materials with self-healing capacity
- Functional coatings (self-cleaning: superhydrophobic, superhydrophilic and omniphobic, anti-icing, anti-scratch, barrier properties)
- Plastronics: integration of electronic components in plastic materials. Flexible electronics and in-mould electronics
- Additive manufacturing - extrusion, injection, compounding processing

They would like to be connected to companies and other kind of organization to explore research and business opportunities in the defence sector in order to further develop their knowledge and/or apply it together with their technologies.

Advantages and Innovations

Their knowledge and capabilities in materials with enhanced properties and manufacturing processes could contribute in the development of relevant solutions for the challenges that arise in the defence sector.

Their facilities and equipment can help in the characterisation, testing and certifying of the materials developed according to very specific situations and conditions.

They are a very renowned centre in the framework of European projects, so they can contribute to the proposals with good ideas, partners and expertise.
