A new smart industrial refrigeration control system that minimises energy consumption

Country of Origin: Spain
Reference Number: TOES20171107003
Publication Date: 7 November 2017

Summary

A Spanish research and development (R&D) centre in engineering and advanced technology, has developed a new industrial refrigeration control system. It minimises energy consumption by just managing key control parameters in an automated approach. The centre is looking for industrial companies with high energy consumption rate, ESCOs (Energy Service Companies) and industrial refrigeration installers, interested in technical cooperation and commercial agreements wit technical assistance.

Description

A Spanish technology centre has developed a new smart industrial refrigeration control system based on advanced models and big data technologies.
The system allows a full adaptation for each company, and for the specific requirements of each plant and real climate conditions. This innovative control system, based on data captured by a previous energy efficiency supervision model, manages cooling facilities from a control layer above “programmable logic controller” (PLC), modifying in real time control parameters in order to raise global performance for the plant.
With this development, the working conditions are optimized for cooling plants, combining specific decision-making algorithms and real time data acquisition system, such as: cooling equipment scheduling, start and stop control parameters and working parameters values such as pressure and temperature.
This industrial refrigeration control system is a low-cost tool and operates independently of the industrial maintenance system of the plant, achieving significant energy savings.
The R&D centre is seeking for industrial companies with high energy consumption rate, (Energy Service Companies) ESCOs and industrial refrigeration installers for new testing activities with technical cooperation and commercial agreements.

Advantages and Innovations

•	The system calculates in real time optimal values for key control parameters, maximizing energy efficiency of the plant while cooling demand is fulfilled.
• Recent testing implantations have reached high saving rates, among 15% and 40% depending on facilities state and working conditions.
• A typical return of investment period is among 6 and 18 months.

Requested partner

The centre is looking for:
-Companies (frozen food, drinks, ice creams, etc.) for commercial agreements. An example of potentially commercial agreement would be a new implementation of the control system, under a cost scheme partially conditioned to the success in energy saving achieved. Technical assistance would be guaranteed.
-ESCOs and industrial refrigeration systems installers, for new testing activities (technical cooperation agreement) and for commercial agreements with technical assistance.

Cooperation offer ist closed for requests
