German University for Applied Sciences with excellence in 'real-time decision making and optimization in enterprise systems' seeks industrial and research partners for joint applications in European funding programmes

Country of Origin: Germany
Reference Number: TODE20200219001
Publication Date: 20 February 2020

Summary

Research by the group at the German University for Applied Sciences is focussed on innovative strategies for real-time decision making and optimization in enterprise systems. Expert knowledge in 'business information systems' is offered for transnational projects, under a research agreement to collaborate in relevant funding proposals such as Horizon 2020 SU (su-ds02-2020/su-infra01-2018-2019-2020) or SC Calls 2020 (sc1-dth-12-2020).

Description

The group of ‘business information systems’ is part of a research-oriented university (University of Applied Sciences) in the southwest of Germany. Main research topics include enterprise systems, SAP ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), access control models, dynamic optimization and evolutionary computation in real-world applications. The group has experience with the execution of several national and international research projects in the past, focused on cloud computing and IoT (Internet of Things) software development based on SAP HANA (High Performance Analytic Appliance) in EU-funded projects and in industrial transfer projects.
The research group would like to bring its expertise into projects and join consortia, with a strong commitment to drive research proposals in related research fields. Relevant H2020-Calls are: i) su-ds02-2020: Intelligent security and privacy management (deadline: 27 August 2020); ii) su-infra01-2018-2019-2020: Prevention, detection, response and mitigation of combined physical and cyber threats to critical infrastructure in Europe (deadline: 27 August 2020); iii) sc1-dth-12-2020: Use of real-world data to advance research on the management of complex chronic conditions (deadline: 07 April 2020).
In particular, they are looking for research cooperation agreements with academic and industrial partners interested in the submission of project proposals containing work packages focussed on real-time decision making and optimization or enterprise systems within the frame of the above-mentioned calls.

Advantages and Innovations

In modern industrial environments, enterprise systems have to cope with a wealth of optimization challenges, including e.g. transportation and machine scheduling problems, access control management, or fleet management. Many such problems do not easily lend themselves to an exact computation, but the search for the optimum would require a prohibitive amount of time. Moreover, in the context of Internet of Things and Big Data, enterprise systems have to consider events, e.g. sensor measurements, changing customer requirements or traffic data. The expertise offered targets heuristics or approximate algorithms which can rapidly compute favourable solutions and support critical decisions thereby processing incoming event data in real-time.
