Research center specializing in the built environment offers its expertise to consortia for H2020 calls on energy efficiency in buildings and digitalization of the buildings sector

Country of Origin: Belgium
Reference Number: TOBE20191202001
Publication Date: 16 December 2019

Summary

Research center based in Brussels active in the sector of the built environment (mainly sustainable architecture and urbanism) aims to join consortia under a research agreement to respond to H2020 calls. They have expertise in BIM (Building Information Modelling), EPB (Energy Performance Buildings), bioclimatic design, low-energy passive architecture conception and urban design with a focus on energy. The following calls have been identified: LC-EEB-04/07/08-2020 and LC-SC3-B4E-4-2020.

Description

A multidisciplinary built environment research center in Brussels consists of several units: architectural engineering, town planning, civil engineering, as well as geo- and computational mechanics. They have expertise in:
- the energy modelling and management of buildings from technological, organizational and social perspectives,
- energy performance of buildings
- services for bioclimatic design,
- low-energy passive architecture conception
- urban ecosystem optimization

They have a vast experience in cooperation in European projects, but they don’t have the capacity to act as a project coordinator. Fields of research envisioned for H2020 collaborations are energy efficiency in buildings and digitalization of the building sector considering broadly technical, technological, and sociological transformations of this digitalization. According their integrative approach, neighborhood, communities or urban scale implications may also be in the scope of cooperation.

The research center is looking for cooperation with providers of sustainable building materials and renewable energy technologies, partners that can offer real scale residential buildings in different climate zones for testing purposes and experts in dissemination and decision support and business modelling. The project should provide the opportunity to host at least one full-time PhD researcher of the Brussels research center.

Advantages and Innovations

The research center is active in the built environment from a multi-disciplinary angle. They have technical and engineering expertise from the transformation of soils and rocks to materials and structures, to working in the field of architecture and sustainable urbanism, covering experimental and/or design perspectives of modelling. They also have good collaboration with other (international) organizations that are active in social interactions in the built environment, such as the linking of green mortgages to green performance in housing projects.
