Description

Concentrating of solar energy is a highly important task in the field of development of solar energy systems. The application of concentrators allows transforming the solar energy into thermal and/or electric energy, which can be successfully used in different industrial processes and for space heating.
An Armenian company proposes a new type low cost concentrator of solar rays. Concentrator has several advantages in comparison with existing parabolic trough or fresnel lens type concentrators.
In the proposed concentrator cheap flat mirrors are used instead of conventional parabolic mirrors. The receiver is placed in the linear focus and it is not moving during the sun tracking. This feature allows avoiding the application of expensive ball junctions. The concentrator has the modular structure and the installation is simple. It has small wind loading and maintenance costs.
The concentrator can be installed everywhere. It can be installed also on the flat or tilted roofs of buildings and it is ground mountable as well.
This concentrator effectively can be used for concentration of solar rays and transformation of solar energy into thermal energy. The high temperature energy (more than 200 degrees Celsius) can be obtained which can be used for different industrial needs or for space heating.
The proposed concentrator can be used also for electricity generation by placing the solar cells in the focal line or for generating both electric and thermal energies by placing the hybrid photovoltaic and thermal receiver in the focus.
The companies sought should be active in the development and production of solar energy systems. The company is mainly interested in licensing this technology under licence agreement or set the production under joint venture or manufacturing agreement.

Advantages and Innovations

The proposed solar energy concentrator is a cost effective device due to the following advantages and innovations.
The concentrator is a mirror reflecting type and uses different cheap mirrors as compared to conventional parabolic mirrors. The sun tracking is simplified and the receivers are not moving during the tracking. Due to the stationary receiver the expensive ball junctions are avoided. The concentrator has small wind loading. The maintenance cost is low. The concentrator combines the advantages of the conventional mirror reflecting parabolic trough and fresnel collectors.
The installation of concentrator is very simple and cost efficient. The concentrator can be installed everywhere, it is a building integrated technology.
