Summary

UK start-up developing a decentralised Next-Generation Internet (NGI) platform is seeking partners with experience, projects and ideas for a H2020 EIC Accelerator (SME Instrument) application to enter into a research cooperation agreement. The application will seek a range of decentralised technologies for the benefit of individuals and the rapid digitisation of industry.

Description

The overall aim is to accelerate the mainstream adoption of a decentralised, Next-Generation Internet (NGI) that will be of benefit to individuals and industry. This will be achieved initially through the development of a decentralised NGI platform by seeking collaborators and contractors to enter into a research cooperation agreement as part of a H2020 EIC Accelerator (SME Instrument) - Phase 2  application. This will support EU Regulation 2015/2120 that specifically requires technology and protocols are developed to ensure that there is no “blocking, throttling or discrimination of internet traffic by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the EU”.



The reality is, blockchain is a ten-year-old technology that has yet to come close to finding mainstream adoption or successfully completing any large-scale public use cases that demonstrate the technology being foundational for an NGI. The start-up and their partner’s work will seek to redress this by evolving the direction blockchain/DLT (distributed ledger technology) development is taking, whilst urgently and rapidly delivering decentralised technology for mainstream public adoption. It is the companies’ view that for mainstream adoption to occur as part of an NGI, two conditions need to be met:



1)	Foundational decentralised technology needs to be developed that is agent-centric and not system-centric (all current blockchains are system-centric, hence negating claims to true “decentralisation"). The technology partner sought will have built this tech.



2)	The agent-centric nature of 100% decentralised data storage must be matched in the form of a publicly accessible “user layer” that allows for 100% decentralised data distribution. The company is building this “user layer” tech. 



In the context of the above conditions, the radically new piece of decentralised tech provides a Netscape-like “user layer” for the new partner's decentralised foundational technology in the same way Netscape provided a “user layer” for HTML internet in 1996 (which is the stage they see blockchain stuck in at the moment). 



The UK start-up is looking to submit a project proposal for a Horizon 2020 EIC Accelerator (SME Instrument) - Phase 2 to finance Research and Development towards the integration and prototyping phase over a period of 24 months, with partnerships potentially continued into the MVP (Minimum Viable Product) phase and ICO (Initial Coin Offering) roll out as well as the potential for further joint working and funding.



The deadline for expressions of interest is 30 November 2019 and call deadline is 8 January 2020.

The bid requires a range of partners. The Start-up is seeking partners from all across industry and research that wish to research, build or develop their decentralised projects with a view to rapid prototyping, scaling or deployment as part of their foundational solution. The start-up strongly feels that this is the fastest way to not only prove the viability of their solution but deliver this and their partner's solutions to the market for urgent and rapid mainstream adoption by individuals and industry. 



The start-up would, therefore, encourage anyone researching and developing, or considering Research and Development of such tech to contact the start-up and they will supply technical documentation in order that they can together explore compatibility and synergy as regards their technologies, aims, and goals. 



Possible bid partners could include (but is not limited to) partners with experience and ideas across a wide variety of potential decentralised technology applications – including telephone companies, Payment Service Providers, supply chains, etc.
