Horizon2020-ERA-NET Sus-Crop: partners (university, SME, R&D center) from ERA countries for a project on sustainable agricultural systems and functional food (soybean) production

Country of Origin: Turkey
Reference Number: RDTR20180228001
Publication Date: 30 March 2018

Summary

A Turkish R&D center is looking for partners such as university, SME and R&D institution from ERA countries to take part in "Sustainable agricultural systems and functional food production: soybean" project under Horizon2020 ERA-NET Sus-Crop action. They look for specialised experts in agronomy, molecular biology, food quality sectors and in agricultural information extension. Project is based on a period of 3 years (including 2 years-trial) for analysing six soybean genotypes.

Description

Turkish technology development area is located in the biggest agricultural city from Turkey having around 1/3 (38%) of seed production with 125 foundations, 375 dealers, 6500 seed producers on 65.000 ha area for certified seed variety production. The project is conducted directly by Turkish agricultural faculty carrying on research and education facilities since 1992. Since 2003, a total of 10 departments is active with many laboratories (food engeenering, plant protection, etc.)

Legumes including soybean are natural phototherapy sources and increase the body resistance to diseases because they are essential for human nutrition owing to high values of protein, unsaturated fatty acids and complementary amino acids of cereals and meat, dietetic fiber, vitamin, mineral that are health care status on blood pressure, cancer types, cardiovascular system, cholesterol, diabetes, osteoporosis, vessel diseases and sustainable agricultural systems due to nitrogen fixation mechanism and biodiesel production so they called “not elsewhere specified” food sources and indispensable for crop rotations.

The project total duration is 3 years and aim at determining the health status (amino acid, dietetic fiber, fatty acid, protein, mineral, vitamin) of six promising non-gmo (non genetically modified) soybean genotypes by five potassium fertilizer doses (including control) with three replications under field trial for two years by focus on drought resistance, yield and quality related characteristics.

Project general outputs: sustainable functional soybean production by determining the health status as food non-gmo soybean as sustainable functional food production by view of healthy and natural human food, determination of drought tolerance mechanism by gene statues, wealth of farmers and rural development, introducing of the project results by relatives, eco-friend crop production systems by using a legume species in rotation programs.
All outputs are as follows:
- sustainable agricultural systems by farming non-gmo soybean,
- sustainable functional non-gmo soybean production by view of human and/or animal health,
- drought tolerance and effective water usage,
- effective potassium fertilizing take care quality and yield by economic analysis,
- alternative crop for rotation systems,
- low inputs versus higher quality and profits for sustainable human health and environment.

Requested partners : universities, SMEs or R&D institutions from ERA countries and have experts specialised on :
- agronomy,
- molecular biology,
- food quality,
- agricultural information extension.

These experts will realize the field trials, specification of drought stress gene expression, nutritional quality analysis and information transfer.
The details of activities that will be conducted in the framework of the project are as follows :
- field trials by using non-gmo soybean genotypes,
- molecular analysis for drought resistance mechanism,
- quality analysis for amino acids, dietetic fiber, fatty acids, mineral, protein and vitamin,
- field days for knowledge extension

The expertise foreseen in the consortium is :
-non-gmo soybean varieties to be adapted to the region
-field trial under irrigated conditions
-some of the quality related characteristics such as amino acid, dietetic fiber, fatty acid, protein, mineral, vitamin, anti-nutritional factors may be analyzed by partner
-extension works such as field days, brochure, farming journals etc. should be realized.

The project will be realized in the scope of 1001 - Scientific and technological research projects funding program, which purpose is to support research in Turkey for generating new information, interpreting scientific findings, or solving technological problems on a scientific basis.

Official deadline for the call : 04.04.2018
Deadline for the expression of interest : 30.03.2018
Duration of the Project : 3 years
