A Korean company/consortium is looking for a European company/consortium for R&D programs to develop smart fire detection platforms for the bilateral R&D programs with the Korean government

Summary

The Korean company/consortium built around an R&D performing organization has been set up and is looking for a company/consortium in Eureka Clusters. Together, the consortium would like to apply for Korean government's bilateral R&D programs with the governments of Spain, Czech Republic and France in latter half of 2018. Innovative platforms and algorithms will be evaluated for early fire alert and extinguishing. Open architecture sensor platform will be used to detect the source of fire.

Description

Big fire has become too common and insensitive among people all over the globe. 



Korea is not an exception. According to the Korea National Fire Data System, 44,178 cases, 506M € property loss and 2,197 casualties in 2017. The trend of these statistics is slowly increasing. 

Even though 44,178 fire alert facilities or automatic fire detection systems existed, 12% false alarm made malfunction in fire operation. And there were 25% malfunction of fire activity.    

It is said that the core fire detection method has not so much been changed last three and four decades. From the fire statistics in Korea, 59% of catch fire occur at materials from the surroundings of daily life. And catch fire normally produces gas, flame and heat. In Korea, only 58% of fire fighters arrive at fire site within 5 minutes after the catch fire.



For fire fighters, pinpointing of the exact fire location and fire source is difficult in such a congested area in modern cities where narrow streets are widely spread. 

At many big fires, it has been discovered that a lot of building owners shut fire detectors and even sprinkler off. Because either they could not recognize any stopped function of detector itself or they would like to avoid fine from misleading on-site fire fighting activity caused by wrong fire report. Sometimes they turn the fire detector and system off not to make any nuisance with the neighbours caused by a malfunction.. 



The fire detection platform will be composed of hardware, software, firmware and algorithms. Some of basic technologies including patent have been developed by the Korean company. During R&D period, both companies/consortiums from Korea and Eureka Clusters will define APIs and sensing modules for test and prototypes. Each company/consortium takes into account the types, specifications and data for smart fire detection platform which will be created and used in their future commercial marketplaces.



The Korean company/consortium built around an R&D performing  organization has been set up and looking for a company/consortium in Eureka Clusters. Together the consortium would like to apply for the Korean government's bilateral programs with governments of Spain, Czech Republic, and France in latter half lf 2018. The official deadline is August 31st; EOI will be received until August 20th. Anticipated duration is three years.



The preferred type of potential partner is a company. The consortium is looking for companies which are capable of: 

1. Company who is eligible and can prepare equally to submit proposal for 2018 Korea-EU bilateral R&D programs as preference.



2. Company could form a consortium in a country of Eureka Clusters, if both parties, Korea and the decided company, agree to prepare multi-lateral Korea-EU program like Eurostars2.



3. Company who can develop market, supply products and provide services by competitional ways as well as in local, European and global market.



4. Company who can drive certification and type approval for the new product.



5. Company who can define specifications for target markets.



The expected role of partners is mainly assistance in introducing the developed product to the European market.

The main advantage of the platform with innovative structure and design is faster and more precise detection of a catch fire about its point and source than those of the conventional fire detection devices.
