SMART4ALL: Greek company producing oregano products is looking for company to develop and deliver an UAV adaptive multispectral camera, based on near-infrared spectroscopy, able to monitor and evaluate required parameters of oregano cultivation

Country of Origin: Greece
Reference Number: RDGR20200805001
Publication Date: 5 August 2020

Summary

A Greek SME is active in large-scale cultivation of oregano. The company produces dried & rubbed oregano, as well as oregano essential oil. The company is looking for a company from South, Eastern or Central Europe for developing a solution based in adaptive multispectral camera for monitoring the cultivation of oregano in the field. The collaboration sought will be research under the submission of a proposal through the SMART4ALL project within a research cooperation agreement.

Description

A Greek SME is specialized in the production and processing of Greek oregano in large-scale. The company produces two main products, dried & rubbed oregano and oregano essential oil. The main challenges of the SME are, first the existence of pyrolizidine alcaloids (PAs) content in the raw material of oregano and second, the quality of the product that directly related to the content of essential oil. Both challenges refer to the cultivation of the oregano in the field. The prediction of the above parameters (PAs and essential oil content) is of great importance for the commercial value of the products offered by the Greek SME.
The company is willing to find a technological solution through the SMART4ALL project for the prediction and monitoring of the PAs and essential oil content. The Greek company is expecting a solution, which will be based in the development of UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) adaptive sensors for:
1) Prediction of pyrolizidine alcaloids (PAs) content in large-scale cultivation of oregano and
2) Prediction of oregano essential oil content in large-scale cultivation
The Greek company is looking for research collaboration with a company from South, Eastern or Central Europe countries. The company will develop and deliver a technological solution to answer the challenges faced. The EOI deadline is on the 4th of September, since the Greek company intends to apply the call: FTTEs – Focused Technology Transfer Experiments, issued by the SMART4ALL project, with deadline of 30 of September 2020.

Requested partner

The Greek company is looking for a technological provider, a company, from South, Eastern or Central Europe country. The company is expected to be specialized in NIR spectroscopy (Near-infrared spectroscopy is a spectroscopic method that uses the near-infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum and related methods). The company is expected to develop and deliver a UAV adaptive multispectral camera in order to monitor and evaluate the required parameters for PAs and the essential oil content. The Greek company is also open to discuss with companies, alternative technological solutions that may serve the desired tasks.
