MANUNET-ERANET Call 2020 – SME looking for a partner that carries out industrial maintenance processes and fast prototyping for a virtual reality technology-based product

Country of Origin: Spain
Reference Number: RDES20200213002
Publication Date: 13 February 2020

Summary

A Basque company (North of Spain) specialized in the use of virtual reality in diverse sectors has developed a multi-user interaction system or immerse rooms technology. The SME who will be the project coordinator, looks for an industrial partner for reaching a joint solution that will complement and improve that system through maintenance processes and fast prototyping. This project will be submitted to an H2020 funding subprogramme called MANUNET.

Description

Virtuall Reality is, today, the most powerful technology when it comes to submerging or transporting people to other environments. Augmented (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) combine to transform the ways in which people communicate, interact and share information on the Internet and beyond.

Until now, most VR systems have been oriented to be used by a single person in a small space. The advanced systems that exist to generate spaces without these limitations are complex systems, which require large investments and cannot be updated and scaled by the client.

In this sense, the company has co-patented an immersive room technology. Any company, university or scientific institution can make use of this multi-user solution enabling the generation of their own content at the same time.
In the industrial sector, these rooms come as completely new scenarios as they integrate well within the processes of the companies, thus, supporting their digital transformation. Thanks to not having any kind of size limitation, it is possible to generate a virtual environment on a real scale through which one can move naturally.

Immersive rooms consist of three key elements:
Tracking technology: Equipment and installation needed to create a room
A control tool: Set of software tools for managing and operating the Immersive Room
Authoring tool: Set of software tools for creating own content

Collaboration via R&D will provide the joint solution which is the objective to be achieved in this project, in particular, a solution for fast prototyping and industrial maintenance based on an immersive technology the Basque SME is currently developing

The partner sought can either come from the industry (manufacturing) or technology field (industry 4.0), he or she could develop a case of use and or an authoring tool. Both tasks will prepare the final product for the market.

Estimated duration of the project: 2 years

Deadline for receiving EOIs: 28/02/20

This project will be tackled by a consortium which will comprise an SME from Spain acting as coordinator and another SME from the Manunet elegible countries.

Manunet supports innovation-driven, close-to-market research and development projects in manufacturing via partnerships. Short-term projects with small-medium consortia are expected. Accelerated funding decisions are applied.

This 2020 Call for proposals includes all fields in Manufacturing, structured in the following topics: VR Technologies, smart maintenance, robotic arm welding, nanotechnology, nanorobot surgery, laser cutting of metal, 3D printing.

Advantages and Innovations

These multifunctional spaces allow higher fidelity, engage all senses and are a very useful tool for:

Team training in work processes
Product Design Review
Products and projects presentations to customers
Team visualization of models, projects and simulations
Research and development of new applications

Stage Of Development

Under development/lab tested

Requested partner

The partner sought would be an industrial partner involved in fast prototyping or manufacturing; specially the main Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) of car, truck, lorry, train or ships, as well as turnkey machine manufacturers. They can view in a one-to-one scale its new designs or do preventive maintenance training based on real time data and advanced visualization. Another task the industrial partner will ideally do is to develop a case of use.

The Basque company will also welcome a technological company specialized in Industry4.0 solutions for a collaboration in developing the authoring tool.

These tasks are aimed at adapting to the market the current prototype the Basque SME is working on.

In this sense, the partner must be willing to engange in an R&D type of collaboration.

In regards to the partner's involvement and commitment, they will be defined once a first contact is made and both companies get to know each other.

Apart from the countries already mentioned, the regions of Overijssel (ND), Wallonie (BE) will also be considered
