H2020-MSCA-IF-2018: Researcher for biomaterial-based approaches for cardiac tissue repair

Country of Origin: Spain
Reference Number: RDES20180607001
Publication Date: 7 June 2018

Summary

A northern Spain university research group specialized in nanomedicines and drug delivery systems is looking for scientist candidates from all over the world interested in the MSCA Individual Fellowship (call H2020-MSCA-IF-2018). She/he will carry out frontier research at the cross border between material science, chemistry, nanotechnology, cell therapy and bioactive molecules related to cardiac tissue repair.

Description

The research group of a Spanish university is focused in the field of biomaterials and advanced drug carrier systems with extended experience in european projects and world-wide collaborations. Their expertise comprises the design and development of polymer and lipid based micro- and nanoscale carriers, its biological evaluation in in-vitro cell cultures and its pharmacokinetic and dynamic impact in-vivo in clinically relevant animal models (rodents, pigs, non-human primates). These micro and nanosystems are prepared using non-toxic, biocompatible and biodegradable biomaterials aimed to protect fragile molecules like cytokines (for cardiac tissue regeneration) or neurotrophic factors (for brain tissue regeneration) from degradation, to achieve a controlled and sustained release over the time, to target the molecules to their site of action (i.e. cancer cells), to decrease the toxicity of anticancer drugs and to improve the oral absorption of poorly absorbed drugs.

The group works in the development of engineered tissues for transplantation based on cell/and protein loaded biomaterials for the therapy of diseases, whose treatment is expected to derive from advanced therapy products (e.g. heart, brain…). The focus is cardiovascular, neurodegenerative and infectious diseases and cancer.

The group is looking for a PhD degree (or equivalent) researcher. The specific research topic for the MSCA IF project will be designed together with the research group in the field of biomaterial-based approaches for cardiac tissue repair to direct the organization, growth and differentiation of cells in the process of forming functional tissues.

Spanish and English are both working languages.

Official deadline for the call: 12/09/2018
Deadline for expressions of interest: 22/06/2018
Anticipated duration of the project: 1-2 years
