H2020 DT-SPIRE-06-2019: Digital technologies for improved performance in cognitive production plants: Partners from process industry sought for use cases.

Country of Origin: Germany
Reference Number: RDDE20181030001
Publication Date: 30 October 2018

Summary

A German research institute and international consortium providing expertise in internet of things, big data and machine learning plans to submit a proposal to the call: "Digital technologies for improved performance in cognitive production plants". They seek partners from the process industry (cement, ceramics, chemicals, non-ferrous metals, minerals, steel, water) for research cooperation to provide use cases where production processes, energy valorisation and product quality will be improved.

Description

An international consortium led by a German research institute is preparing an innovation action proposal addressing the H2020 call: Digital technologies for improved performance in cognitive production plants.

The project should address cognitive production plants, i.e. full digital transformation of a complete plant or sites, including, e.g. data acquisition, communication, automation, analytics, modelling, prediction and standardization of relevant data interfaces. As it is an innovation action (IA), the consortium plans to investigate concrete case studies in 3-4 pilots. Activities should start at TRL 5 (solution validated in relevant environment) and achieve TRL 7 (solution adequacy tested in real-life conditions).

For the architecture the consortium is considering reusing components of an existing open source platform and industrial data space architecture. The solution will be enhanced with the consortium experience regarding internet of things (IoT), semantic technologies, machine learning and big data management.

The solution should be able to acquire the data from heterogenous data sorces, linking them and applying different applications in order to

- improve the quality of products: e.g. The inputs could be the quantity of the used (raw) materials and the production parameters

- improve the efficiency of the production process: reduce the downtime, predictive maintenance.

The present consortium consists of research institutes, a foundation and an SME from Germany, Serbia, France and Poland. These organisations will be technology providers for big data architecture, semantic technologies and artificial intelligence.

Industrial partners are sought for case studies. They should be involved in the following process industry sectors that are characterized by a high dependence on raw materials and energy in their production and processing technologies:

· cement
· ceramics
· chemicals
· non-ferrous metals
· minerals, steel
· water

The partners sought for research project cooperation should be from process, not manufacturing industry. They will provide the use cases and further develop technologies and processes as stated above with the support of the technology providing partners. The solutions will be tailored to the respective use cases.

Deadline to submit proposal: 21 February 2019
Deadline for expression of interest: 30 November 2018

Advantages and Innovations

As this is an Innovation action developing a technology from TRL 5 to TRL 7, the project can support the industrial partners to transfer components that they have already tested themselves into productive use. The technology providing partners may already have solutions that can be adapted to the individual requirements or they will develop relevant technologies.

Requested partner

Industrial partners from process (not manufacturing) industry from the above-mentioned sectors are sought.

The partners should provide use cases relevant for the call. They can thus further develop technologies and improve their valorisation of energy and material streams and enhance the performance and efficiency of particularly high-energy intensive processes. The technology providing partners in the consortium will provide suitable big data architecture, semantic technologies and artificial intelligence technologies and know-how.

Within the project the partners could coordinate use cases or work in the respective work packages.
