Publication Date: 30 September 2019

Summary

A leading telecom provider in the Netherlands is looking for internet-of-things solutions that can contribute to monitoring the supply chain of fruits and vegetables. Partners are sought for joint development in the frame of a research or technical cooperation agreement. This Technology Request refers to an innovation challenge published on an open platform until November 3rd and all Expressions of Interest will be redirected to this platform.

Description

Consumers have an increasing need for insights into the origin and footprint of fruits and vegetables from a sustainability perspective. Farmers are experiencing an increasing pressure from the government to produce circular and sustainable, whilst guaranteeing food safety. Currently these types of insights can be created by estimation. However, real and detailed insights can enable farmers to optimize their production process, guarantee the product’s origin and footprint, guarantee food safety and prove their contribution to circular and sustainable production.

The telecom provider disposes of assets for mobile communication like 3G, 4G, 5G and LoRa (Long Range, Low Power developed for exchanging small amounts of data between objects and systems) that can be used for Internet of Things connection.

The provider is looking for solutions to make use of these networks to exchange data with crops during all stages in the supply chain. This data could be used to generate and interpret insights about the origin and footprint of fruits and vegetables in an economically sustainable way.

The provider is looking for partners who are able to develop the necessary ecosystem needed to distribute the required information. The types of cooperation proposed for joint development are a research cooperation agreement or a technical cooperation agreement.
