Summary

An Italian not-for-profit association has developed a set of low-cost electronic devices to be used for sound installations, music performances and education that are available under an open source license. The association is looking for companies, associations, and professionals interested in technical cooperation agreements to jointly develop further applications or interested in research cooperation agreements to prepare a proposal under the Erasmus+ Key Action 2 call (deadline March 21st).

Description

An Italian no-profit association of music composers and makers, with artistic and engineering background, knowledge of sound technologies, electroacustic music and a passion for the creative use of technologies, has developed a suite of low-cost electronic boards, for the realisation of creative and versatile sound installations and music performances.

The offer includes a set of electronic music devices, available in a price range between 10 and 40 euros, briefly described in the following:

- A capacitive board to transform any conductive object into a capacitive sensor that reacts to a person's touch. The board can connect up to nine sensors, and eight analogical inputs (from other sensors or potentiometers).The board can send data to a laptop through a serial port and it can be used for games, entertainment, education experiments, and sound installations.

- A mixer with two inputs and signals' level regulators and one output (mono output mixer). The signal is not amplifed but the mixer does not need to be powered and it does not affect the input signals in any way.

- A control voltage board dedicated to DIY (Do-It-Yourself) synth enthusiasts.

- Several other boards, including noise filters and midi-in / midi-out ports.

- An education kit with experiments on audio setup and electronic circuits that allows the use of the electronic boards for educational purposes in a variety of topics related to computer music, sound technology, and electronics,

The set is completed by two DIY digitally programmable synth prototypes that can be recognised by a computer as a MIDI controller, with audio output, MIDI-IN e MIDI-OUT, and a micro USB port.

The boards are mainly based on Arduino or Raspberry Pi , using the Mozzi software library and/or the PDSynth software toolkit.

All products and prototypes are available as a Do-It-Yourself kit or in a mounted/tested version.

Use, modifications, and further development are possible under an open source license.
Currently, the realisations are circulating in the Italian circuit of DIY sinth enthusiasts and electronic music peformers,

The association is interested in technical cooperation agreements at European level with companies, associations, performers and professionals with the following goals:

- jointly develop new products / prototypes and exchange / integrate new technical solutions into the existing products, with companies and associations working on open source hardware and software for electronic music and sound installations;

- jointly develop new education kits and materials (i.e. experiments, manuals, tutorials).with companies and educators.

Additionally, under a research cooperation agreement, the association is interested to collaborate for the preparation of a proposal under the Erasmus+ programme Key Actions 2 Strategic Partnerships (deadline 21 March) for further development of the existing know-how into an innovative eduction program on sound and electronic music for primary and secondary schools. The association can offer its know-how and experience with research projects.

- companies working in the education field to jointly develop new educational kits with sound experiments, manuals, tutorials etc.
