A Czech research centre is looking to join a consortium within a European research project. The research team can contribute their expertise in photo/catalytic nanomaterials that are used for the removal of antibiotics from wastewater. Research cooperation agreement is envisaged.


The Czech research centre is an independent university institute that conducts basic and applied research and development for industrial applications. One of its departments is focused on the development of new materials and deals with the topic of preparation of photo/catalytic nanomaterials which are used for removing antibiotics from wastewater. The research team is looking to contribute their expertise in EU research projects and join a consortium focusing on the topic of catalytic materials.

There is a great interest in the synthesis of nanosized green, reusable catalysts which would better assist various chemical reactions in industrially important technologies. However, these nano-catalysts enter biogeochemical cycles and become harmful for the environment and living organisms. To address this challenge, the research centre focuses on the preparation of metal nanoparticles and development of ceramic carriers for sustainable, green catalysis.
The research team conducts basic research in the following areas:

• Synthesis and study of highly catalytic nanoparticles prepared via laser ablation of bulk or pressed pellets;
• Synthesis and characterization of FeS2 nanoparticles;
• Laser immobilization of catalyst particles on the surface of porous water-floatable carriers;
• Characterization of chemical composition and structural properties of synthesized nanomaterials;
• Ablation experiments in water and/or organic phases are conducted in order to examine the effect of the liquid phase on the structure, morphology and size of the deposited particles;
• Synthesis and characterization of improved hierarchically porous carriers for catalytical nanoparticles;
• Study of adsorption properties of water pollutants on selected carriers.

Research cooperation agreement with companies or research institutions interested in creation of a project consortium is envisaged.
