Description

An Armenian company with profound experience in the field of designing and fabrication of solar systems proposes  an ideal solution of producing electric power for regions where there are large quantities of biomass waste resources, farms, nearby forests etc.

One of the attractive technologies for alternative fuel from biomass is called gasification and the equipment used in the gasification process is commonly referred to as gasifier.
Gasification is a process of converting carbonaceous materials (agricultural and forestry biomass) through incomplete combustion at temperatures of more than 800 °C to combustible gases consisting of carbon monoxide, hydrogen, carbon dioxide and small amounts of methane etc. This gas mixture is commonly known as a “producer gas” or “syngas”.
The company has developed and patented a solar powered biomass gasifier (SPBG), including concentrating solar technology and biomass gasification. The method of biomass gasification using solar energy produces a higher yield of syngas when compared to traditional combustion methods. The SPBG forgoes the traditional method of combusting biomass or fossil fuels and uses solar energy instead to obtain the necessary energy from heat. Using the biomass feedstock as the source of energy to drive the gasification reaction typically consumes 20% to 30% of the original energy content making the gasifier much less efficient. Contrasted against traditional non-solar gasification systems, the SPBG produces a 30% higher yield of fuel per unit feedstock.
Biomass is a potential renewable energy source in particular for developing countries. A wide variety of feedstock can be used in biomass gasifiers, and Armenia is endowed with significant quantities of these feedstocks. The key market segments in Armenia for biomass gasification are the small/medium industries, commercial sector and rural communities.
Countries vastly employing biomass power generation are likely to be attractive markets for the proposed gasifier in the future. Europe forms the major segment for biogas generation in the world with countries like Germany and Sweden occupying major share in the region. Countries like India and China with huge rural areas can be considered as potential markets for biomass gasifier.

Partners are sought to provide additional theoretical and experimental investigations of this new technology, as well as find optimal parameters for its practical realization under commercial agreement with technical assistance, technical cooperation agreement and /or research cooperation agreement.

Advantages and Innovations

Due to multistage filtration technology, generated gas is clean enough for safe usage in households or other applications.
The biomass gasifier is an ideal solution of producing electric power for regions where there are large quantities of biomass waste resources, farms, nearby forests etc. This technology is easy to operate, simple and economical in maintenance and service, has no high pressure steam, no turbines and is easy to start up and run the standard combustion generator. The biomass gasifier requires a small land area to operate. It is environmentally-friendly, simple to install, and it can gasify most kinds of agricultural and forestry biomass. These will in turn produce very low cost valuable electric power energy. The production of 1 KW of power requires only 1.2~1.85 kg of biomass briquettes and pellets, wood dust or crop stalks as fuel.
